Hampstead Harp Class aims to educate and develop the performance technique and ensemble playing for harpists. Through harp ensemble, private instruction, chamber music, masterclasses, performance opportunities, and harp maintenance workshops, students acquire skills necessary to play with others, hone their musicianship, and deepen their knowledge and appreciation for the instrument.
Harp Ensemble
Harp ensemble is a wonderful way for young harpists to learn how to play together with other musicians, and learn valuable skills such as counting, following a conductor, listening to other parts, phrasing and shaping dynamics as a group. Ensemble groups are typically comprised of 4-6 students, where each student has a unique part that is specifically arranged for them to suit their level. Genres include classical, pop, folk, and jazz. All levels encouraged!
Private Lessons
Private one-on-one instruction, taught by one of Hampstead Harp Class’s tutors, is available and catered to the needs of each student. Recommended for students interested in preparing for ABRSM Grade Exams and/or want individualized lessons.
Harp Maintenance
Harpists will learn to take care of and maintain their instruments. Topics will include changing strings, tuning, and mechanics of the pedal harp.
Performance Classes
Each harpist will be provided a platform to hone their performance skills and receive coaching in a masterclass setting. In addition to the end of term concert, where students will perform as an ensemble and a solo piece of their choice, other performance opportunities will be organised throughout the term.
